Technical Introduction
- Three-Phase anti-parallel power unit is composed by two SCR connected in anti-parallel mode on each phase to realize the AC phase-controlled voltage regulation. Each thyristor work for the correspond positive and negative half cycle. So the consistency of the parameters of the two anti-parallel connected SCR is very important as well the gate characteristics and holding current parameters, etc. The consistency of thyristors employed will provide the positive and negative half waves be symmetrical, otherwise the current with DC component will flow through the inductive featured motor, the motor stator will be heated greatly, then motor windings will be burned and motor will be damaged finally.

- To realize the soft start and protect 6kV and 10kV high voltage motors, it is necessary to connect the SCRs in anti-parallel and then connect them in series to fulfill the high voltage operating requirement. Each phase of 6kV requires 6 thyristors (2 in anti-parallel and 3 groups in series), and each phase of 10kV requires 10 thyristors (2 in anti-parallel, 5 groups in series). In this way, the voltage tolerated of each thyristor is about 2000V, so the forward and reverse non-repetitive rated voltages VDSM and VRSM of the selected thyristor should be 6500V or above. To select the rated current of thyristor, the rated operating current of the motor must be considered. Generally, the selected current of the thyristor should be 3 to 4 times of motor rated current.
